Charles Howard Dixson

Charles Howard Dixson, (71) of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on October 5, 2013.The memorial service will be held at Alexander Funeral Home on October 14, 2013 at 12 Noon. Rev. Antonio Peyton (Nephew) will be officiating. A private interment will be held for the family at The Veterans cemetery in Salisbury NC.

Charles was born in Pierce, Oklahoma on January 3, 1942. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High-School in Enid Oklahoma, before entering the United States Army. Charles was awarded the Bronze Star the fourth highest medal awarded in the military during his two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military after serving 25 years both on active duty and in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired as a highly decorated First Sergeant. Charles also served on The Washington D, C, and Metropolitan Police Department for 3 years upon his first discharge from the U.S. Army.

Charles went on to work for the United Parcel Service after and retired from UPS with 32 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family, music especially the Blues, traveling, sports, and watching Westerns on TV. He was also actively involved in church while residing in the Washington D.C. area and after retiring and moving to Charlotte N.C.

Charles is survived by wife of 47 years Anita Richardson Dixson, 3 Son: Roger Stephenson (Debbie). Eric Dixson (Chiquita), Shawn Dixson (Erica). 8 grandchildren: Doris Pierce (Clint), Ebony, Brittany, Javon, LaShawn, TreShawn, Anita, and Charne. 3 Great-grandchildren Olivia, Alexis, and Akari. He is also survived by 4 Siblings: 1 brother: Leonard Dixson Jr. (Jeanette) 3 sisters: Lois Ross, Vonda Peyton and Arber Wheaton as well as numerous nieces and nephews, The Richardson Family, and many other family, friends and loved ones.

Waiting to greet him are his parents Leonard and Virginia Dixson.

Charles wanted everyone to know that he lived a full life with no regrets. He was blessed with a beautiful, spirited family and sincere friends. His mission in life was to be a positive influence on his sons and wife. He took great pride in his love and guidance on his sons, grand-children, nephews and nieces and they continually exceeded his expectation. One of his last conversations was “I have lived, loved, laughed, traveled; I have enjoyed my 71 years on this Earth”. His wish was for us not to be sad for him; he lived his life to the fullest. If you loved and respected him, his wish was for all of us to do the same without reservation.
