Aaron “The Mailman” Nicks, passed away February 26, 2024 at the age of 67, in Charlotte, NC
surrounded by loved ones. His battle with serious health issues in recent months showed his
courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Aaron was born in Huntington, WV to his late
parents Ms. Francis Virginia Nicks and Mr. Bert Thomas Murrell Sr.
He loved his hometown of Huntington and often returned to visit family and friends. He spent
many years in Columbus, Ohio and Houston, Texas before permanently residing in Charlotte,
NC. He was a hard working mail carrier who dedicated 33 years to the US Postal Service before
retiring in 2016. He was known for his ability to make friends everywhere he went, his comedic
humor, quick wit, zest for life, sports and music, and especially for his involvement and
compassion for the people and communities he served. His love for family, cruises, dancing,
and the Oakland raiders defined his vibrant spirit. He was the heart of every vacation and
gathering - no matter the size. He had a way of making everyone he came in contact with feel
like family.
He is survived by Eljta Goodwyn, who loves him yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Siblings; Wilma Harris (David), Carolyn Nicks, LeEtta Nicks, Imogene Vaughan, Deborah Burks,
Bert Murrell Jr, Kathy Stuart, and Steven Shareef.
Children; Chatawndra (Eric) Knight, Chakara Bell, Aaron ‘AJ’ Nicks Jr. (Olivia), Tiffiny (Pedro)
Figuereo, and Devyn(Curtis) Bynum.
And a host of nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
His legacy lives on through his grandchildren Erik, Bryce, Cameron, Khenidi, Rico, Bradley,
Arianna, Sofia, Kaden, and Kendal.
He touched many hearts with his kindness and humor. He will forever remain in our hearts, as
he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will never be forgotten.
