Alberta Nash Reed

Alberta Nash Reed, 73 of Charlotte – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Albert Nash Reed on November 7, 2015 at The Crossings Assisted Living Community at Steele Creek. Alberta began her life on January 19, 1942 in Pineville, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Barber and Fred Nash. She was preceded in death by her son, Oren Lamont Reed; one sister, Virginia Brown and two brothers – Alfred C. Nash and Henry R. Nash Sr. Alberta was valedictorian of Sterling High School – Class of 1959. Her passion for education and children led her to earn an Associate’s degree in 1961 at Friendship Junior College, later a Bachelor’s degree from Barber-Scotia College 1963, and finally a Master’s of Education degree from the University of North Carolina in 1991. She was a lifelong educator within the North Carolina Public School System retiring after 30 years. She was well-loved and admired by her students as a brilliant teacher throughout the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. She taught at Sterling Elementary, Statesville Road Elementary, Troy Elementary, Oaklawn Elementary, Lucia Elementary and Pinewood Elementary Schools. Alberta was a lifelong member of James Chapel Baptist Church in Fort Mill, S.C. and served as church secretary for numerous years. Alberta was a woman greatly loved and respected by all those who knew her. She will be dearly missed. Everlasting memories will always be cherished by her husband, Alvin Reed; children – Ericka Reed, Jerry Green and Chris Green, three brothers: Lester Nash (Eva), Harry Nash (Deborah) and William Nash (Tricia), three sisters: Mildred McAfee (Willie), Susie Nash and Winnie Brailey (James), sister-in-law: Mary Nash. Brother-in-laws - Edward Trapp (Harriett) and Bobby Reed. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. A special thanks to the staff at The Crossings at Steele Creek Assisted Living facility for their wonderful care.
