Allen Edward Rushing

Allen Edward Rushing was born on January 20, 1962, to the late Peggy Ann Rushing Sowell and Allen Cathy Jr. of Charlotte, NC.

Allen graduated from Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC. He started in transportation as a bus driver for CMS system; that started his career as a truck driver. His last employment was with Stevenson Weir Southern and Show Pros Entertainment.

Allen Edward Rushing married his middle school sweetheart, Gloria, on September 28, 1996, in Charlotte NC.

Allen was known by many as MoMoney and Big Al. He always had a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh, a great sense of direction that was better than the GPS; he could guide you out of a ditch just by telling him the landmarks around you. He was also was an amazing husband, father, and father figure to many, a best friend, a great  coworker just to name a few. In his leisure time, he would watch sports (Tarheels all day but never Duke), old cowboy movies, Good Times and In the Heat of the Night. He practically cut all his neighbors' lawns and washed the vehicles to make sure they were shining. His favorite day was Saturday when he could spend time with his wife and grandsons going to grab a hot meal from Whataburger. Family gatherings were no different; he had a mean one-two step with a little lean. Every moment with us was always “priceless,” as he would say. To know him was to know someone who always went to work and would often say “gotta have it” when it came to making money.

Allen departed from this life on March 28th, 2024 surrounded by his wife and loved ones and entered into eternal rest.

Allen is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Leonard Crowell and Julia Rushing Crowell and paternal grandparents Allen Cathey Sr., Annie Cathey, parents Peggy Ann Rushing Sowell and Allen Cathey Jr., brother Allen Cathy III., Father-in-Love Harrison Parks Sr., brother-in-law Mr. Ricdson Henry Knox., Aunts Cynthia R. Garrett, Lorraine R Barnes, Carolyn L Rushing, Doris Jean W Dixon(Thomas), Thomasina Rushing Fisher(Booker), Pat Legette and William Cathey.

He leaves behind his wife Gloria Denise Parks Rushing of 29 years; five children: Shanae Rushing, Donta Mungo(Allison, Skylar Rushing, Olivia Ford(Ty), Qualacia Culbreth(Antwan); five grandchildren whom he loved dearly: A’mia Rushing, Zaria Rushing, Shyla Rushing, Noah Ford, Mylo Ford, and fur-grandbabies Boosie, Oreo, Tank Chief. Siblings Phillicia Cathey, Judy Morrow(Roddey), Sharon Rushing Davis, Dana Cathey, Kerry Cathey, Carlos Rushing(Sabrina), Robyn Rushing(Andre’), Dimarzio Rushing(Brenda), Stephanie Anthony(PJ).  Aunts Wilhelmina McNair(Rudolph), Linda Robinson(Greg), Harriet Daniels, Peggy Brown, Donnie Gaines. Uncles Charles Cathey Sr., Joseph Cathey Sr, Mother-In-Love Ann Parks, sister-in-love Sheila Ann Parks, bother-in-love Kennth Parks(Lisa), Antoine Parks of  Charlotte NC sister-in-love Carlisa Parks Rodriguez(Juan) of Fayetteville, NC Bonus parents Nathaniel Sowell and Catherine Cathey of Charlotte, NC and  a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Celebration of Life for Allen Rushing will take place on April 06, 2024, starting promptly at 11 AM for visitation and service starts at 12PM.
The honor colors for Allen are Carolina blue and white.

Venue for Homegoing celebration and repass will be held at New Vision Ministry located at 6425 Old Mount Holly Rd, Charlotte NC 28208.
