Arthur Edward Pegues, 77 of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Atrium
Carolina Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1946 in Morven, NC to the late Arthur Pegues Sr. and Daisyella Myers (Patrick).
Arthur graduated from William Penn High School (High Point, NC). Shortly after, he was employed with
Estes Trucking, Armour Meat Company, Consolidated Freight Ways, and retired with Charlotte
Mecklenburg School System in 2015.
Arthur was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves with his
wife Mary of 55 years. Arthur also like to watch Jeopardy because he thought he was the smartest in the
history category! In his spare time, he took pride in his yard work, shooting pool with the fellas, singing
and dancing to his favorite artists, offering unsolicited advice whether you wanted to hear it or not…(he
was usually right). Most of all, spending time with his family which was his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Daisyella, and three siblings – Bernie Pegues, James
(Clayton) Pegues and Anne Dunovant.
Arthur leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving devoted wife Mary Pegues, three daughters,
Sheila Smith (Don) (Monroe, NC), Lynette Pegues, Latanya Pegues-Riddick (Deandre), and one son, Ed
Pegues (Christel) (Charlotte, NC).
Mother in law – Willie Mae McLean, three sister in laws – Barbara Pegues, Althea Randolph, Vanessa
Sinclair. One brother in law – Larry Sharpe (Pat).
Grandchildren – Sierra Pegues (Jeremy), Jessika McMaster, Shanice Pegues (Keith), Deja Watts, and
Makayla Smith.
Great grandchildren, Chase Pegues, Kashiya and Keimar Ford, Kaliyah, Jamir and Autumn Williams, Kari
Rogers, Carter McMaster-Shaw, Jordyn and Jaxon Sturdivant.
Special Niece, Claytonia Boular-Woods and Special Sista-Cousin, Bernice Sturdivant.
And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Arthur Pegues’s vibrant life will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Shiloh
Institutional Baptist Church located at 2400 Greenland Ave, Charlotte, NC 28208. Viewing begins at 12
pm and the service begins at 1 pm. We invite all friends and family to join us in honoring a multifaceted
soul whose love, wisdom, and laughter touched our lives in countless ways.
