Ms. Barbara Ann Floyd, age 77 of Charlotte, N.C., daughter of the late Luther and
Annie Bell Moses Floyd was born October 13, 1944 in Charlotte, N.C., departed this life at
home peacefully on March 18, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings
Sammie Floyd Sr., and sister Gussie Floyd.
Barbara received her formal education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System,
graduating from West Charlotte Senior High in 1962. She then attended and graduated from
Johnson C. Smith University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. While
there she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She did further study at the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received her Masters of Education
Degree in Early Childhood Education and The Principalship Certification.
Barbara was employed as a teacher in the Gaston County and Charlotte Mecklenburg
School Systems. She taught at Matthews Elementary School and was named Teacher Of The
Year and Outstanding Young Educator by the Matthews Jaycees. After leaving Matthews
Elementary, Barbara became a Career Development Assistant for the East Mecklenburg/West
Charlotte Area. She was later appointed assistant Principal at J. T. Williams Eastway, and
Sedgefield Middle Schools, where she retired. She was also a member of the NCAE, NEA and
the Charlotte Mecklenburg Retired School Personnel.
After all she accomplished, Barbara wants it to be known that she loved her Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ and that He loved her. She was a people person who always wanted to do
good for the Kingdom. At an early age Barbara joined greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under
the pastorate of the late Rev. J. E. Fiddmont, Jr. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Youth
Director. Barbara late joined Chappell Memorial Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev.
Superintendent of the General Sunday School, and Director of Christian Education. She served
on the Church Leadership Team and was a member of the Golden Harvest Ministry. She later
joined Life Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. A. R. Muwwakkil. She served on the
Christian Education Ministry.
Barbara is survived by two nieces, Kim Gabriel & Kristy F. Gooden of Charlotte, one
nephew, Kenneth D. Floyd of Charlotte, and cousins. She is also survived by a strong support
group that she named “The Crew”, Walter and Helen Williams, Linda Gentry, Clarene Brady,
Arry McCauley, Charlene Foman, Keith and Linda Berry, Rev. A.R. and Mary Muwwakkil,
Judy Fuller, and a host of friends.
