Ms. Betty M. Kearns, affectionately known as “Bebop”, the youngest child of late Luther Augustus Kearns and Mabel Williams Kearns, was born August 6, 1949. She departed this earthly life October 20, 2023, peacefully in her sleep after an extended illness. One sibling preceded her in death, Hazel K. Swain.
Betty grew up in Charlotte, where she graduated from West Charlotte High School, Class of 1967. She attended First United Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member until her illness.
Betty began working for Southern Bell, now known as AT&T, July 20, 1969 and retired on May 15, 2006.
Betty’s hobbies included singing, arts and crafts, and working in her yard. She sang and traveled with the non-profit organization Up With People. She also enjoyed acting and modeling. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great nieces and nephews.
Betty is survived by her mother, Mabel W. Kearns; sister, Ethel Kearns; nephew, Christopher “Chris” Swain; niece, Elder Deborah “Deb” Swain-Moore; three great-nephews, Christopher Griggs (Gwen), Christian Rudisell, and Jonia Green; two great-nieces, Mercedes Logan and Isis Carroll (Raphael); four great-nephews, Amir Carroll, Nathaniel Massard, Amari Phillips, and Recco Moore; three great-nieces, Ilaieh “Lae” Greene, Ebony Logan and Riley Juzel Logan; two aunts, Sarah Sanders and Willie Mae Darby; one uncle, Johnny L. Jackson (Mirian); a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
