Mrs. Betty Jean Mason Lowery was born on October 11, 1935 in Greenville, SC. She transitioned from this earth while in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. She was the loving daughter of the late Mr. Bernard Mason and the late Mrs. Maggie Mason.
Betty moved from South Carolina to Charlotte, NC at an early age and was a graduate of West Charlotte High School. While in high school she not only was a cheerleader, but she also participated in sports activities. She grew up attending St. Paul Baptist Church faithfully with her parents. While attending St. Paul, she befriended three sisters (Elizabeth, Minnie and Catherine) and the sisters introduced her to their brother, Bobby Lowery. The two corresponded while Bobby was in Germany serving in the military. When Bobby returned home they were married, started a family, that love continued to blossom for 67 glorious years.
Her caring spirit led her to become a Registered Nurse's Assistant with what is now Atrium Health. After many years of service in nursing she took some time off and later joined Bobby’s company, Better Cleaning Janitor Service, as the chief inspector and receptionist. Betty adored her church family and was a lifelong member of St. Paul. She served on the Jr. Usher Board, the Sr. Usher Board and was also deaconess. With her love of gospel music, Betty decided to join Hymn Choir #3, which she loved and cherished with her whole heart. Singing with them on Sundays brought her so much joy for many years. She adored traveling and her favorite season was winter because she absolutely loved to see it snow. Betty showed the true definition of living a life of service for the Lord and she never shied away from sharing her love of God with all she knew. She was not a woman of many words in her later years but her kindness and warm spirit spoke volumes to all who knew her.
Betty leaves to cherish loving memories, her husband Bobby Gene Lowery, four children: Regina L. Jones (Chauncey), Reginald Q. Lowery, Revonsia L. Dozier (William), all of Charlotte, N.C., and her youngest, Robert Eugene Lowery (Joann) of Concord, N.C. Thirteen grandchildren: Tyrell Lowery & Jazzarae Dozier of Charlotte, Takia Jones Torrence (Charles) & Khrystyne R Jones of Charlotte, Marcel R. Jones (Khadija) of Atlanta, GA, Talia Lowery-Garcia (Jackie) of Texas, Reginald Lowery (Danielle) of Texas, Jocelyn N. Lowery of Charlotte, Janel M. Lipscomb (Deonte’) of Charlotte, Robert Justin Lowery, Jacob Eugene Lowery of Concord, N.C, and Denia and Delano Heath of Charlotte. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren: Charles Torrence Jr., Chaz A. Torrence, Cailynn Jones, Camilla Jones, Cameron N. Wooten, Caliope Lowery-Garcia, Paisley & Olivia Lowery, Jaxson R. Lowery, Duke Xavier Lipscomb, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Her incredible legacy will live on through us and we are truly thankful for this angel God shared with us for eighty-seven years.
