Bettye Golden Holloway was born November 4, 1933 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Minnie Bell Golden. She grew up in the Cherry Community. There she attended Magan Street School. In 1943 she along with her mother and five siblings moved to Baltimore, Maryland. The she continued her education at Booker T Washington Junior High. In 1948 she came back to Charlotte where she would graduate from Second Ward High School and would serve as its class president of 1952. She held this position until her death. Her education continued as she went to Barber Scotia College but did not earn her degree until she graduated from Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland. She went on to meet the love of her life John L. Holloway, Jr. (Johnny) and would have one daughter.
Bettye was baptized at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Baltimore in 1965 but went on to become an active member of the Third Lutheran Church there she would support the youth in several capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher from 1965-1971.
She and Johnny married in August 1969. After that she and their daughter would make Charlotte, NC their home. Together they become active members of University Park Baptist Church (Currently known as the Park Ministries) joining in 1979.
Bettye worked in the wire transfer department at North Carolina National Bank (currently Bank of America) for over 15+ years. In the mid-to late 80’s she lovingly decided to end her career early to raise her two new granddaughters.
Bettye was a loving wife to her husband Johnny (deceased), mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. To some she would be like a “second” mother. She was an encourager, mentor and good friend to many. Bettye was a lover of sports especially a Panthers fan.
Bettye is survived by her daughter Charlotte, two grand-daughters, Shakena Golden (Arbob); Tia Golden Alexander (John III); two great-grandsons John IV and Justin. One sister Velma Golden-Screen (West Bloomfield, Michigan); one brother Wilburt Golden (Baltimore, Maryland). A god-daughter Diane Thornton and one special sister-in-law Geneva Council, and sister-in-law Doris Holloway Mack (Poughkeepsie, New York). Along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were brothers Marion and Talmadge Golden; and one sister Jean Golden Solomon.
She will be missed and loved by family and friends
