Mr. Bobby Martin, Sr., affectionately called "POP" by his loved ones was born July 8, 1935 to the late Nellie Belle Martin in Charlotte, North Carolina. He departed this life on September 27, 2021 at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital. He attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Bobby was married to Margaret Wallace Martin and from their union six children were born.
He started as a Chef with the Charlotte Country Club. He retired from Celanese as a Chef after 34 years. Over his lifetime, he was the entrepreneur of Bobby Martin Janitorial Services, B&W Builders, Big M Stables, Big M Restaurant, and Big M Catering. He was active with the Druid Hills Community and the 4H Club. Bobby was an avid horse trainer and showman. He received many awards, trophies and certificates. His greatest reward was watching the next generation become horse riders and owners. He was an advocate in steering people in the right direction.
Bobby received Christ at an early age. He joined Greenville Tabernacle and continued as a lifelong member of Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a member of the Steward Board and Life Member. He cooked for the Western North Carolina Conference for numerous years.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nellie Belle Martin; two sisters Constance Martin Thorman and Marjorie Martin Simmons; one son Larry Donell Martin; and two brothers-in-law James Wallace and Thomas Knox.
Bobby leaves to cherish fond memories his wife Margaret Wallace Martin; daughters Cassandra M. Moore (Kenneth Sr.)and Carolyn M. Spears (Kenneth); sons Bobby Martin, Jr. (Juvonna), Ronald K. Martin (Diane) and Walter H. Martin (Duuna); twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law David Wallace (Shirley), Joseph Wallace (Wilhelmena), Perry Wallace (Gwendolyn) and Edward Wallace (Cleonia); one sister-in-law Gertrude Wallace; a godson Patrick E. Jones, Sr. (Valda); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and numerous adopted children.
