Brenda Thomas Hughes was the daughter of the late Alice Mark Thomas and Alvin Thomas. She was born on January 28, 1952 in Picayune, Mississippi. Brenda was married to Paget E. Hughes, born in Antigua, British Virgin Island. She departed this earthly life on August 5, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord, North Carolina.
Brenda was baptized at a young age at Second Morning Star Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA under the leadership of the late Rev. William Ricks Sr. She served as a Sunday School Teacher at Second Morning and was responsible for church announcements for many years.
Brenda was educated in the New Orleans Public School System. She graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in Special Education and a Masters Plus 30 degree in Special Education. She worked as a Special Education Teacher in the New Orleans Public School System for 30 years and retired in 2005. Brenda moved to Charlotte, NC after Hurricane Katrina devastated the City of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paget E. Hughes and sister Deborah Thomas Prince.
Left with many precious memories are her daughter Paige A. Hughes (Jeromy Rouse) Charlotte, NC, three (3) grandchildren: Jade Rouse, Jacob Rouse and Paisley Rouse (Charlotte, NC). One (1) Stepson Kim (Greer) Hughes (St. Croix US Virgin Island).
One(1) Sister Jacqueline (Kamoru) Jimoh (Charlotte, NC), One (1) Niece Tai J. Grant (Charlotte, NC), two (2) Nephews Kamoru Jimoh Jr (Charlotte, NC) and Michael Prince (San Diego, California), One (1) Great Nephew Jaelin Grant and One (1) Great Niece Tabitha Grant (Charlotte, NC). Special Friends: Deborah Brooks and Barbara Brumfield (New Orleans, LA), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
