Calvin Smith Jr.

March 8, 1933 — February 8, 2024

Calvin Smith, Jr was born on March 08, 1933, in Mecklenburg County to the late Calvin Smith, Sr. and Macie Cathey Smith. Joined in holy matrimony to Carolyn Gary Smith. With this union shared were three sons, Jerome B., Eugene and Micheal L. Gary.

He departed this life into eternal rest February 08, 2024.

He completed his education at the Plato Price School, Charlotte North Carolina. After Graduation he was drafted into the US Army fought in the Korean war.  A member of the American Legion Post 262.

Calvin worked for many years at American Cyanamid Chemical Co. and retired Freedom Chemical Co. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Ollie,” “Cal.”

He was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, Charlotte NC. He loved his church. Even in his lowest times his church was a priority. Participated faithfully in the upkeep and generous contributions for the reassurance of God’s temple.

He was known as a quiet, private, caring, and warm spirited person. He loved his family, his couch, and his westerns. His whole demeanor and the way he saw life was so calming. Calvin was a devoted husband and father. His warm spirit will be deeply missed not just by his family but all that came to know him.

Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn Gary Smith, his sisters, Alberta Smith, Connie Mae Grier (Excel) of Baltimore, Maryland, Mildred G. Sloan (Clifford); Annie L. Grier (Samuel); Essie McLain (Green A) very special niece Devoralaine Ardrey (Robert), sister-in-law Sandra Leeper Smith. Brothers: William Smith (Beatrice) Melvin Smith, Graham B. Smith; Son Micheal L. Gary all of Charlotte, NC

Calvin Jr. celebrates his home going in a peaceful eternal rest. He leaves us with God’s promise of “The Resurrection and the Life Everlasting.” He is survived by his sister, Kathleen S. Reid, brothers; Charles Smith and George (Jim) Smith, sisters-in-laws; Bessie Smith, Margaret Smith. Children; Jerome B. Cary of Charlotte and Eugene Gary of Phila, PA. Seven Grandchildren; Kayanisea, Omar, Markus, Jamaka, Carolyn, Micheal, Synquis all of Charlotte and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and others that loved him dearly.
