Candis Ella "Tip" Clyburn Carey, the daughter of the late James Monroe Clyburn and Candis Drakeford Clyburn, was born August 24, 1930, in Kershaw, South Carolina. She departed this life on December 1, 2020, at Atrium Medical Center Mercy. Candis was educated in the Kershaw County Public Schools. She was the youngest of fourteen children and named after her mother. Candis relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1948, and shortly afterward married Albert Carey and started her own large family. Prior to her retirement, Candis worked for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for thirty years. She joined Simpson-Gillespie United Methodist Church in 1996 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James Graves. After her retirement, she enjoyed attending the United Methodist Women monthly meetings and was an active member of the First Thursday Senior Ministry until her health declined. Candis was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Candis Denise Carey, and thirteen siblings. She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons—Albert L. Carey (Verlene), Anthony Carey, Tyrone Carey, Wayne Carey; and four daughters—Linda Carey, Wanda Jones, Teresa Goines, and Gwendolyn Carey, all of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
