Charlie Davis Sr., on Friday, November 2, 2018 quietly and peacefully passed away at home at the anointed age of 104. Mr. Davis was born July 10, 1914 in Pineville, North Carolina. Mr. Davis was a proud Veteran, who served 4 ½ years in the United States Army. During his time serving his country, he fought and survived (World War II). Mr. Davis was employed by the City of Charlotte Parks and Recreation Department, from September 8, 1949 to January 2, 1980. Prior to moving to the City of Charlotte, he was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church in Pineville, North Carolina. On September 16, 1956, he joined St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. J.F. Wertz. Mr. Davis became an active member of St. Paul by singing in Gospel Choir #3, and later became the president of Gospel Choir #1. In addition to his time spent at St. Paul, he was ordained as a Deacon on March 21, 1976, under the tutelage Dr. Paul W. Drummond. Furthermore, on May 18, 2003, he was awarded Deacon Emeritus under the instruction of Dr. Gregory K. Moss, Sr. Mr. Davis, was married to the love of his life, his loving wife (Lillie Ruth Davis) who preceded him in death, for 50 plus years. They shared many great likes and grew a beautiful garden that fed many families, friends and neighbors throughout their community. Lastly, Mr. Davis was a master carpenter who made some of the furnishings in his home. Mr. Davis is survived by and leaves to cherish him, Daughters Dorothy Simpson, Marilyn Davis Johnson and son Charlie Davis Jr. and adopted daughter Elma Witherspoon. Host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
