A time to be born and a time to die. Charlie Melvin Sherrill born November 25, 1939 to Thomas and Jamie Polk Sherrill departed this life on April 5th, 2021 at Pelican Health Care. Charlie was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He retired from Jones Chemicals after 25 years. In his spare time he enjoyed selling snowballs, attending community picnics and baseball games, fishing and doing minor repair work on cars. He joined Columbus Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age and was a dedicated life time member. His religious affiliations were: having served on the Church Choir, Lay Council, Men's Ministry, Preacher Steward, and at the time of his death the Trustee Board. He was a loving and kind hearted person. Loved by so many. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Sherrill; his mother, Jamie Polk Sherrill; brothers, Robert Sherrill and Richard Sherrill; and sisters, Barbara James, Betty Sherrill McCorey, and Birginia Sherrill. Charlie leaves to cherish his legacy, a devoted wife, Phyllis Mills Sherrill; sons, Vernon Reid (Waverlyn), Melvin Sherrill, and Wayne Sherrill; daughter, Charlene S. Simmons; brother, Harold Sherrill (Diane); sisters, Annie Myers, and Helen McKissick, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his children's mother, Hazeline Anderson Sherrill, three brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
