Constance Yvonne James Lewis

July 19, 1948 – April 18, 2022

On Monday April 18, 2022, Constance Yvonne James Lewis gained her heavenly wings and made it to a land of peace, free from sickness and sorrow.

Connie was the second of three children born to the late Herbert and Verleitha James on July 19, 1948 in Newark, New Jersey.  Connie accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Saviour and was baptized at a young age.  She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey where she also was a member of several choirs.  She graduated from West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey in 1966.

Connie met her soulmate and the apple of her eye Thomas (Tom) Lewis and they were married on March 29, 1970.  Together Connie and Tom gave there love unto there two children Regina Edwards (Gina) and Darnell Getter, Jr. (DJ).

Connie worked at the Newark Board of Education in the Purchasing Department for 40 years.  She retired in 2008 and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Throughout her life Connie loved being apart of the 13 ^th Street Block Association.  She would help coordinate bus rides and block parties for the neighborhood. She also loved watching Tom play baseball.  She loved chatting on the phone about the latest news, playing bingo and trying her luck on the slots at the casino. Connie also loved to shop she ALWAYS made sure the children in her family had every school supply imaginable and showed her love with big piles of gifts at Christmas time. Enjoying the smiles of her acts of love is what she cherished.  Connie could also be viewed as the family Historian as she kept hold of report cards, 1 ^st driver’s licenses and other important documents.  But her most pride and joy were her grandsons that she loved and adored.

Connie is predeceased by her parents Herbert and Verleitha James, her sister Jacqueline (Jackie) James, half-brother Herbert Sheppard and husband Thomas Lewis.

Left to cherish her memory, her sister Annie Getter, Daughter, Regina Edwards, Son, Darnell Getter, Jr. (Tiffany): Five Grandsons Elijah Williams, Jordan Edwards, Cameron Getter, Caleb Getter and Cassidy Getter.  Her nieces: Dawn Johnson (Eric) and Tennille Garner (Bakim) Nephew: Darnell Getter, Sr.  Her Great nieces and nephews: Dominique Getter, Damon Getter, Verleitha Getter, Sigheeda Johnson, Shaheed Johnson and Tauri Garner. A special aunt Mima Batchelor.  Special friends Marilyn, Beverly (Peanut), Juanita and Mildred.  And a host of Great great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
