David James Abraham, Jr.

November 30, 1937 — August 7, 2021

David James Abraham, Jr., “June” was called to eternal rest on August 7, 2021 at Atrium Health Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.  He was born November 30, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late David James Abraham, Sr., and Emma Dargan Abraham.  David was the oldest son of eight children and was preceded in death by his son; Derrick Abraham, brothers; Nathaniel and Lincoln Abraham, and sisters; Selma Simelton and Arlease Neal.

David was educated in Winston-Salem and Charlotte – Mecklenburg Schools.  He graduated from J. H. Gunn High School where he drove a school bus prior to graduating in 1957.  As a young child through his young adult years, he was a member of First Baptist Church West, and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful and active member on the usher board and choir.  After his marriage to Rosetta Abraham, they joined the Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church (Uptown) and to their union was their adopted son, Derrick Jaudon Abraham.

David enjoyed working outdoors.  In the 1960’s, he worked for Bost Horticulture Co. and acquired landscaping skills that remained with him throughout his life.  In 1963, David received his license in Barber Science at Modern Barber College in Winston-Salem, NC. David was a barber at Fairview Barber Shop on Oaklawn Avenue for 20 years before the area was revitalized.  His interest shifted to truck driving and he drove delivery trucks for several companies including Overnight Trucking Company, Lowe’s Company, Inc., Joint & Clutch, Scott Buick, and Campbell Brown, Inc, where he later retired.  He also took courses and received certificates in Auto Mechanics at Central Piedmont Community College.  He was very artistic and skillful with his hands building elaborate window treatments, cornices, and bookcases as a hobby.

Of the many activities that he was involved in, he proudly served as a member of the Help and Aid Group, The Brotherhood group, the Men’s Choir, and the Mass Choir.  His greatest joy was Wednesday Night Bible Study and helping to feed the homeless each 4 th Sunday at church.  He did volunteer work with Friendship Trays and was a school bus monitor for preschoolers at Bethlehem Center.

David leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife; Rosetta Abraham, sisters; Pecola Maxwell (Earl), Darlene Conner, and Claudette Fetsco, sisters-in-law; Mary Bowden, Elizabeth Wright, Marian Davis (John), and Harriet Bell, brothers-in-law; John Albert Jaudon (Vanessa) and Aldren Jaudon, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and dear friends.
