Deborah Gale Welborn was born on February 16, 1956 in Charlotte, NC to the late Thomas Welborn Jr and Joan Thomas Welborn who preceded her in death. Early Wednesday morning on May 20, 2026, God sent down His loving angels to bring her home to eternal rest. She was educated at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and graduated from West Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1974. She then attended Winston Salem State University, graduated with Class of 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority INC and the Eastern Stars.

After college she taught in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Systems at Double Oaks Elementary for two years. Eventually, she moved to Washington DC and worked in the Alexandria, VA School systems. She retired after working 30 years, then moved back home to North Carolina.

Debbie could be often found in the fitness center or at home working out as she loved to get her steps in. Deborah loved having fun traveling, going to live music concerts and line dancing. Her favorite saying was “I’m living my best life “. Debbie was very particular about her appearance; she loved to dress up and often wore her signature ponytail, which was her pride and joy.

Deborah was also a big music fan, and her favorite musical group was Steely Dan. Deb never met a stranger and loved being involved in groups and projects. She loved people and cherished her friends. She wanted to make everyone happy! She would busy herself doing civic projects and especially enjoyed working with the IMC (International Minority Coalition) as one of their committee coordinators.

Deborah was preceded in death by two brothers Forrest “Gene” Welborn (Dorothy) and Jonathan Quinn Welborn of Charlotte, NC. Those remaining to celebrate her legacy are her two brothers Thomas “Mike” Welborn III (Gwendolyn), James “Gus” Welborn (Mitzi), One sister Joni Welborn Anderson (Jenterious) also of Charlotte, NC, and a host of Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, cousins and special friends.
