Derrick Anthony Mack, Sr.

Derrick Anthony Mack, Sr. was born to Ronald Mack and the late Bernadette Owens on March 20,1967 in Far Rockaway (Queens), NY.

He was raised by loving Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles who instilled in him a love for life and people! Always a sweetheart, Derrick was also smart, creative, fun loving and a free spirit. As a child he loved running up and down the apartment hallways, riding his bike to his Nana’s house in Ozone Park, playing on the playground with friends and enjoying his time near the beach with his family in Far Rockaway. He also spent many summers visiting his family in Pollocksville, NC. Derrick never met a stranger and his village of friendships grew from there. Derrick loved cars and all genre of music. He especially had a profound love of Hip Hop and R&B!

Early on after relocating to Charlotte, his children D’yana and Derron were born (born to Melissa Mack) followed by his marriage to Caroline Mack and the birth of Derrick, Jr. (Anthony) and Dominique.  He often said that his greatest achievements in life were his children and his marriage of 25 years to his wife, Caroline!

Derrick graduated from John Bowne H.S. in Queens, NY and attended New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, NY.  Derrick worked at Alexander Group Home and was a school administrator at Garinger High School.  He was the inventor of ShiftyShooze and was an event planner that brought many artists to perform throughout the city of Charlotte.  His creativity was prolific and he birthed many businesses over the years.  Derrick was also an author and penned the book “ Mack-Nificent Words to Live By. ”

Derrick was a mentor to many and an exceptional motivational speaker!  He lived to educate children and share words of wisdom with his village.  Derrick was a great friend, he had a tremendous impact on the lives of countless people and was loved by SO many!

Derrick fought to the very end and the love that he showered upon everyone in his village was certainly returned to him.  Derrick was surrounded by loved ones as he transitioned.  Derrick earned his wings and he was promoted to Glory on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Preceding Derrick’s transition were his mother, the late Bernadette Owens, his Grandparents and other cherished loved ones.

His memory will be treasured by his wife, Caroline Mack, his children, D’yana, Derron, Derrick Jr. (Anthony) and Dominique Mack, his Father, Ronald Mack (Agnes Mack), his brother, Jason Mack, Aunts, Maria Foreman & Olive Atchison and an abundant host of loving family members and friends.
