Dorothy Green Shipman was born on April 8, 1926 to Charlie Wright and Aleana Wright. She graduated from Second Ward High School in 1945. Later meeting and marrying David Lee Shipman. Three daughters were born to this union.
Dorothy had four brothers, Charles Green, Robert Green, Johnny Hope and Rudolph Hope to precede her in death.
In 1946, Dave and Dot as they liked to be called joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Dot sang on the early morning choir and Dave sang on the men’s choir. Dot loved her church family.
Dorothy stressed that when she dies, please don’t cry for me. I am meeting my love ones up in heaven. Will be with Jesus, who died for me. What a day that will be!
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her daughters, Aleana “Candace” Shipman & Pamula Grier (Earl), of Charlotte, Rasheda Ali, of Alanta Ga., Sister; Vennie Jones of Charlotte, Sister-in-Law; Mildred Hope of Charlotte, Grandchildren; David Omar Shipman, Ahmed and Ali Safeeullah, four great grands, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends.
