Loving husband and father, Dr. P. Michael Green, 65, of Charlotte, North Carolina, ascended on August 23, 2023. Michael was born in December 1957, to his mother and father, Blanch G. Rush and Robert “Cletus” Kendall, in Troy, North Carolina. He had a wonderful relationship with his stepfather, Henry I. Rush. After graduating from North Stanley High School in 1976, he attended Johnson C. Smith University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and was a snare drummer in the University’s band. He continued his path to higher education, receiving a Master of Science degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, an MBA degree from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and his PhD in Leadership Studies from the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University in 2015. Michael worked in accounting for Allen Tate Realtors and, later, held the positions of IT Delivery Manager and project executive for IBM Corporation.
Michael has always had a natural aptitude for leadership and was very active inside and outside of the church, serving as an adult Sunday school teacher of the Empowered Disciples Sunday School class, a Friendship usher, prayer warrior, mentor, and true friend. He was an avid gardener and budding chef. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports, traveling, listening to good music, and spending quality time with loved ones. Michael married his wife, Dr. Cheryl L. Brown in 1988. They decided to get married only one week after meeting. Together they have one daughter, Mackenzie, and two sons, Ellington and Zachary. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert “Cletus” Kendall; stepfather, Henry I. Rush; and brothers, Charles (Charlie Foxx), Tony, Vernon, and Robert (Robbie) Kendall. Michael is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children (Mackenzie, Ellington, Zachary, and Haile, Sr.); mother, Blanch G. Rush; sisters (Sheila, Lorraine, and Kyndall); brothers (Timothy, Jamie, Scottie, Shawn); grandson, Haile Ingram, Jr.; and Aunt Georgette.
We reminisce so fondly over Michael’s outreach to others. No matter where he went, or what new people he met along his journey, he was always sure to make a friend.
