Edward Eugene Leeper, 68, was born in Logan County, WVa., on Nov. 23, 1953. He was born the beloved son of Herbert Warren Leeper Jr. and Edith (Parker) Leeper.
He was a lifelong resident of Jamestown, N.Y., a community that he loved and thrived in. Edward attended Jamestown Public Schools and always found great comfort tinkering with motorized gadgets and building some of the most impressive go-carts in the family garage all by himself as a child.
Some of our fondest memories of this handsome and loving man was when he would build these motorized go-carts from scratch. When he had to surrender one of his creations (because he was a minor and without a permit to operate it), he would simply commence to building the next one, which was always bigger and better than the last. Like his father, Edward mastered his skills as an arc welder receiving his Level II Advanced Welder Certification from Columbus State Community College.
For a considerable time, he was gainfully employed with Watson Mfg, Inc. before his disability forced him into retirement. After retirement, Edward perfected his culinary skills and became a formidable homemaker. Before leaving Jamestown in 2018 (at any hour of the day or night), you could most likely find him sitting on his front porch, sipping on his daily cup of coffee watching the daily events unfold before his eyes and greeting family and friends as they passed him by – always unassuming, privately postured, and at peace with God.
Edward is preceded in death by his loving father, Herbert Warren Leeper Jr.; his oldest sister, Rositta Norman of Illinois; and a great-nephew, Kristian Devonte Piazza of Jamestown.
He is survived by his loving mother, Edith (Parker) Leeper of Lincolnton, N.C.; three sons: Brian Duckett of Jamestown, Edward Leeper Jr. of Jamestown, and Curtis Barnes of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by five sisters: Antonia Davis (Raleigh, N.C.), Barbara Garland (Charlotte, N.C.), Sylvia Gray (Atlanta, Ga.), Donna (Andre) Scott (Lawrence-ville, Ga.), and Savannah (Eddie) Mortley (Lincolnton, N.C.); and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom adored and loved him dearly.
A gathering of family and friends will take place in North Carolina in the coming days to bid this son, father, brother, uncle, and beloved friend, a sorrowful and heavenly ride home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you continue to pray that we may find strength and comfort in having to say goodbye to our dearly departed. We love you, Edward – always and forever.
Revelation 3.20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
