Elijah Kitchen born November 28, 1929 earned his heavenly wings on November 2, 2021 in
Charlotte, NC. Elijah was born in York, SC to William Davidson and Rosa Kitchen. He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who worked diligently to serve others. He was
a former member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Greater Mt.
Moriah Primitive Baptist church for over 45 years.
Elijah was employeed for General Tire for over 40 years and after his retirement operated a
lawn service for his community. He loved to sing and was a part of the Mt. Carmel Male
Chorus, the Mt. Moriah PBC Men’s Choir, and the City-wide Hymn Choir. He loved to bowl and
travel with his family. His greatest joy was being present at the birth of his namesake, his great
grandson, Elijah Justice Kitchen. He also supported the raising and development of his great-
grandson, JaChe McClurkin.
Elijah is survived by his daughters, Brenda Kitchen, Minnie McClurkin and Bessie Deas;
grandsons Justin Kitchen (Deirdre), Gregory Deas (Norma), Che McClurkin; granddaughters
LePetite Deas, Nequeela Deas-Blanton (John), LaTonya Terrell (JT), Shelia Deas; and 14 great
grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a close friend, Sarah Sloan.
Services for Mr. Kitchen will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 at Alexander Funeral Home,
1424 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte, NC. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and services will begin
promptly at noon.
