Elmira Ray House, 86, passed peacefully into the loving arms of
Jesus on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Born 1935 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Elmira was the daughter of
Marie Beatty Ray and Albert Earl Ray who preceded her in death.
She will be lovingly remembered by daughters Gayle Marie Ray and
Kenna Laverne House and Brother, Charles Ray all of Charlotte, NC.
Other siblings, Gladys Alexander, Albert Ray, David Ray and Henry
Ray passed before her. Elmira was blessed with one grandson,
Thomas Carven Wilson and a host of grandchildren as well as great
grandchildren. Special thanks to Brittany Sinea Murphy, Andrea
Jasmine Elmira Halsey and Donovan Moore who were instrumental in
helping care for their Great Grandmother in her declining years.
Elmira graduated from West Charlotte Senior High School and in 1954
married Johnny Walker House. She loved cooking for her family and
this led to an over thirty year career as Cafeteria Manager at York
Road Senior High School. Her service was well respected and upon
retiring, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools requested that she return and
continue what had already been an auspicious career. Her talent for
serving was her calling from the Lord.
Elmira's entrepreneurial skills were evident in her longtime ownership
of the Do Drop In Beauty Salon on Beatties Ford Road.
Elmira was a devoted member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic
Church for many years. She was also a member of the Amaranth
Chapter 663 Order of the Eastern Star, Charles E Grier Court No 2
and Rameses Court No 78. She loved to travel and visited many
destinations; some far and some near. Elmira had recently returned
from a trip prior to her death.
While we will miss our beloved mother grandmother sister and friend,
we have the full confidence that she is now worshipping at the feet of
our Savior and we give thanks for her life.
