Emily Massey

Mrs. Emily Mildred Massey was born on May 5, 1941 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was raised and loved by her parents, the late John Williams and Lessie Williams. Emily's early exposure to church life began with her mother at Ebenezer Baptist Church. While being raised in church as a child, Emily was a member of the choir. Throughout her adulthood, she was a devoted and lifelong member at Ebenezer Baptist Church where she faithfully attended Sunday school, church trips, and was a dedicated member of the Missionary Ministry.

She was educated at Isabella Wyche Elementary and graduated from Second Ward High School. After high school, she worked as a cook at Pipe Foundry. On November 15, 1959, Emily married United States Airman Nathaniel Massey. In 1969, Emily was involved in a very bad automobile accident and became disabled. With the assistance of her sister Rudene, Emily recovered from her injuries and became a homemaker and was instrumental with the care and upbringing of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Massey of Vanwyck, South Carolina, one sister Mrs. Valarie Russell of Charlotte, North Carolina; five brothers, Sylvester Williams and Hosey Williams both of Charlotte, North Carolina, Adolphus Williams (Sadie) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jerome Williams of Greensboro, North Carolina, and John Junior Williams (Kaye) of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Emily entered into a peaceful rest on Friday, September 8, 2023 at age 82. The memory of Emily Mildred Massey will live on with her sister Rudene Williams, her three children Loretta Young, Stephanie Massey, and Jeffrey Massey (Antionette); eight grandchildren: Nicole Massey, Monya Mccombs, Michael Mccombs (Tameka), Chaquita Massey (Kevin), Dontavious Dixon (Vita), Clifton Massey (Latoria), Steven Massey, and Latavia Massey; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a host of family including nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends, and church members.
