Eric S. Ellis

March 4, 1966 — September 8, 2024

Eric Stuart Ellis was born on March 4, 1966. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Dorothy Ellis. His parents made sure that he was involved in many extracurricular activities. He took swimming classes at the McCrorey YMCA, he was in the Boy Scouts of America, and he was a member of the Charlotte Children’s Bowling League. In his early childhood, Eric was a member of Grier Heights Presbyterian Church. He attended Lincoln Heights Elementary, Albemarle Road Junior High, and Independence High School.

He further added to his educational journey by attending and graduating from Johnson C. Smith University.

Eric always had a love for puzzles and equations.  It was no surprise that he majored and earned a BS degree in Mathematics.  He taught Math at Eastway Middle School in Charlotte. He was often called upon to assist other teachers with discipline issues, offer counsel, and be the male role model students needed. His rapport with people was a great asset and he used it to earn the respect of the students as well as the faculty. Former students still acknowledge him and extol the camaraderie and respect they have for him. That meant so much to him because Eric loved children. After leaving the school system, Eric worked at Bell South and Duke Power. In later years Eric decided to work for himself. He was skilled at cabling, carpentry, electrical and wiring issues for homeowners.

Eric became a member of Omega Psi Phi’s Charlotte Alumni Chapter Pi Phi  in 2000. He served on many committees that participated in community service events such as helping the elderly and mentoring youth of Charlotte. He was very active with the Omegas of Charlotte and loved being an integral part of their activities.

Eric’s love of the drums started at an early age. He improved and expanded his knowledge by joining Albemarle Road’s concert band, and Independence High School’s marching band. While attending Johnson C. Smith, Eric was a prolific drummer and enjoyed working with the other drummers in the band, so that they could create a drumline that was the anchor of the Golden Bull’s band.

Eric leaves behind a family that loved and cared for him deeply. He is survived by his brother, E. Scott Ellis (Donna) and his niece, Sierra Ellis. Cousins Angela Jackson (James), Cheryl Ellis, Deborah Brown (Myron), Katrice Wallace (Algernon), Kim Young, Pam Howze (Michael), Steven Mansel, Yolanda Lee and a host of family and friends.
