Estelle Louise Aaron

March 21, 1929 — October 25, 2021

Estelle Louise Aaron, or our “Aunt Lou,” as she was known to her nieces and nephews, was born in March of 1929 in Santiago, Cuba, one of three children born to Imogene Newland and John Holm. She was only 5 years old when Fidel Castro’s regime took over the island and her mother was forced to flee to nearby Jamaica with her sister Alphonsene and her brother George, leaving behind their beloved father whom they never saw again. That tragedy marked the beginning of an inseparable bond. Those three formed the foundation of our family, and those bonds keep us together to this day.

As a young woman, Estelle Louise was special. Outgoing and gregarious, she attracted attention everywhere she went. In 1970 she emigrated to the United States and later met and married Joseph Aaron, the love of her life. They lived in New York City for a number of years where she worked at the Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway until retirement. At that point they moved to Charlotte in search of a warmer climate. Aunt Lou was a Christian who was very active in her church. She sang in the choir and participated in many church events. Most importantly, she believed in God and that one day she would reunite with Him. Her soul is at peace, and heaven rejoiced when she arrived.

She leaves behind a powerful legacy of love and dedication to family. Among those who will miss her the most are her devoted husband Joseph Aaron, her daughter, Yvonne Ireland, as well as three generations of nieces and nephews who number in the hundreds, all of whom knew and loved her with all their hearts.
