MRS. ESTHER MAE MAGLINE NAIL THOMPSON, the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Carrie Cochrane Nail, was born on a Saturday November 3, 1923 in Charlotte North Carolina, The widow of Mr. Vance Thompson, she joined the great cloud of witnesses and entered into eternity on July 22, 2015.
Mrs. Thompson, affectionately called “Mother T”, was born and raised in the Greenville Church of God (Charlotte, NC). She became a long time member of Carrboro First Church of God, where she made many life time friendships and memories. She served as Elder, the Board of Trustees Chairman, and President of the Missionary Board.
Mother T will be long remembered in the church family and Carrboro-Chapel Hill, North Carolina community as a servant leader. She is well-known for large Sunday dinners where guest were ensured to be fed well and sent home with a prayer and feeling loved. She developed lifelong relationships through her many years of service to North Carolina Ministerial and Campground Association. She enjoyed 50 years of services to the family of Dr. and Mrs. Sydney Cohn with mutual love and affection.
The mother of one child, her son, Larry Thompson preceded her in death.
She leaves to celebrate her life: three sisters, Ms. Ruth Nail Jones, Ms Brenda Nail Morgan, and Miss Beverly Ann Nail, all of Charlotte, North Carolina, two brothers, Mr. Charles Nail Sr. (Annie Mae), Mr. Colton Nail, Sr. (Dorothy) also of Charlotte. Her sisters Vernetta Nail Thornwell, Harriett Nail Glover, and brothers John Gilbert Nail, Tommy Nail, and Harold Nail, preceded her in death. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends will remember her fondly.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 1pm at Seigle Avenue First Church of God. Visitation from 12-1. Burial will be in York Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Mrs. Thompson can be made to the Marian Cheek Jackson Center, 512 West Rosemary St, Chapell Hill, NC 27516. The Jackson Center, a non-profit in Mrs Thompson’s community, is a public history and community development center working to preserve the abundant history from Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and desegregation through today’s racially, ethnically, and economically diverse neighborhood.
