Floyd E. Perry, Iii

Floyd Edward Perry, lll was born September 26, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Hazel Rhynes and the late Floyd Perry, Jr. He was called to his eternal home at the age of 73, on March 16, 2025.

Floyd attended both public and Catholic Schools in Brooklyn, until moving South for his high school years. Prior to entering high school, he moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to live with his maternal Grandmother (Fannie Rhynes) until college. It became evident that the south was a good fit for him.  As a student at North Forsyth High School, Floyd excelled in sports as he received many awards for his many achievements as a basketball player.  Prior to his Senior Year at North Forsyth, Floyd, along with some of his friends, organized and successfully led a boycott that brought attention to racist practices implemented in his high school.  The boycott led to an investigation by the school board and the school postponing the Miss North High Homecoming Queen Contest that his High School Sweetheart-later to become wife-Renda (Ervin) had won.

After graduating from high school, Floyd’s athleticism, leadership qualities and versatility earned him a scholarship to Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration.  Upon completion of college, Floyd’s charismatic personality, gift of gab and sharpness in math brought him much success in the insurance industry and many car dealerships in Charlotte and Gastonia, NC, most notably first rising to become a Manager at Sam Johnson Lincoln Mercury, as well as becoming the first Black Closing Manager at Metrolina Dodge, and Keffer Dodge.

Floyd will best be remembered by his family for his sense of humor, love of music and dance, good food, beach trips, his “half distance drive “of a 200 mile trip being 30 miles before becoming sleepy, loving a good laugh, his entrepreneurial spirit, late evening or early walks on the beach, and swimming with the kids. Floyd was an avid competitor, even later into adulthood, double jumping his kids in checkers, showing off his power and jumpshot playing one on one basketball, or striking a forehand winner on the tennis courts of Veterans Park in Charlotte. He’ll be further remembered for his flair for fashion, loving music by Tye Tribbett, attending 8am service at Little Rock AME Zion Church as a family, serving on the Steward Board, going to University Park Baptist Church and standing in line outside to get inside as a family, and serving in the Ushers and Pacesetters Ministries. Lastly, he provided entertainment doing Mazda radio commercials, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Shark Tank and Mocha the Mood Tiktok videos, while providing West Charlotte High School with cars for their Homecoming parade. As a strong Man of God, he would often say, “Your gift will make room for you” Proverbs 18:16 “No matter what happens, keep your feet a tappin’.”, as well as “God gives you witty inventions” Proverbs 8:12.

He will be remembered as a provider and motivator who loved his family.

Floyd leaves to cherish his memories Renda Ervin Perry, his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, a devoted daughter Jeanelle DeAnna Perry, two faithful sons Joseph Perry and Justin (Lee) Perry, two grandchildren, Justin Lloyd Perry, Jr. (Gray) and Stella Anna Perry, all of Charlotte; his Stepmother Catherine Perry of Marietta, Georgia, three sisters in-law Pamela Nolan, as well as Nettie Littlejohn, of Winston-Salem, Barbara Littlejohn of Gardena, CA; one brother in law Phillip Littlejohn (Peggy) of Winston-Salem; Also remembering him fondly are three aunts, Vickie Rynes and Phyllis Rynes, of Winston-Salem; Jennifer Young of Marietta, Georgia; an uncle Michael Rynes, of Winston-Salem; three great aunts Minnie Ervin, Hannah Eldridge, of Winston-Salem and Mollie McClain of Greensboro, NC; three nieces Candrice (Khalif) Oliver of Wake Forest, North Carolina, NC, Ashley Nolan of Orlando, Florida, Pia Hardy of Winston-Salem; two nephews Bryan (Casondra) Littlejohn of Durham,NC, Raymond Littlejohn lll of Gardena, CA; a special cousin Vanessa Rogers of New York, New York. Floyd is also survived by a host of other loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his grandparents Fannie Gibson Rhynes, as well as Willie and Alberta Rynes; special aunt and uncle Cynthia and Jimmy Rogers.

The Visitation with the family Hour will be Monday, March 24, at 10am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11am at The Park Church, 6029 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28216.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
