Rest in Power, Mr. George H Goss
Charlotte lost a real one
George (GG) was a man of many hats — Army veteran, Clorox supervisor, proud Dallas Cowboys fan, and owner of the iconic GG’s Lounge. He served this country with honor in Vietnam, earning two Purple Hearts and a list of medals that reflected his courage. But back home in Charlotte, he served his community with just as much pride through laughter, leadership, loyalty, and love.
For 25 years at Clorox, he gave excellence — showing up, showing out, and rising through the ranks with that signature GG grit. Then in the mid-70s, while still working full time, he opened GG’s, a lounge that quickly became a second home for many. And let’s be clear everybody knew, you followed GG’s rules or you sat out for 30 days. No exceptions. Even the suspended would try to tiptoe back in like nothing happened and George would just shake his head with that classic grin.
He was the kind of man who could plant a garden, hold a room, tell the best stories, and still ask how your mama was doing all in one conversation. He loved fishing, shooting pool, cracking jokes, and sharing time with his people. And he loved his Cowboys — win or lose, he wore that star with pride.
George impact reached far beyond the walls of his lounge. He poured into his neighborhood, gave back when it mattered most, and was a father figure to many in West Charlotte. His presence was bold, but his heart was even bigger.
He leaves behind his significant other Maggie Morrison, three beautiful children Roosevelt Abraham, George Goss Jr., and Gevone Goss — who carry his legacy with strength, pride, and love.
This Saturday, August 9th, we’ll gather not just to say goodbye, but to celebrate a man who made Charlotte brighter, louder, and better just by being himself.
