Glennie Grate

GLENNIE GRATE was born in Georgetown, South Carolina on September 16, 1933, to the late Mike and Margaret Grate.  He peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday August 26, 2017. Glennie Grate was a proud graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School, Class of 1952 and Carver College, Class of 1957.  Glennie served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was employed by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company until his retirement from AT&T in 1985.   Glennie enjoyed working in the yard and had a passion for grilling.  While Mr. Grate was a quiet man who never complained, he possessed a gentle and authoritative manner.  He was exceptionally wise, with a witty sense of humor.  Because Mr. Grate lived in a household with five women, he was faced with many challenges; however, he successfully survived them all.  Glennie Grate was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather. He was very loyal to his family and friends.   Glennie Grate was preceded in death by his spouse Bettye Willis Grate.  His fond and loving memories will be cherished by; his four daughters, Carol Grate, Bettina Smith (Gregory), Danita Grate of Charlotte, North Carolina and Glenda Grate of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren,  Christopher Grate (Terra), Brandi Morgan (Antoine) and Cameron Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina and one great-grandson Mason Morgan; three sisters, Barbara Kizer (Nathaniel), Margaret Clark (Sam), Cynthia Woods (Alvin) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends.
