Gloria Courtney

January 18, 1933 — July 2, 2018

Gloria Theresa Courtney, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 2, 2018. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to the loving union of Ernest and Melvina Harris, Sr on January 18, 1933.  She went to Catholic School for her elementary years and part of her middle school years.  She attended and graduated from Morris High School. She married the late Stanley Courtney on January 1, 1963 in Queens New York. They were happily married for 51 years. She worked as a Transit Clerk for NYC Transit Authority for 25 years. She worked for the US Postal Service for a short time before finding her final place with NYC Transit Authority.  As a youth Gloria was brought up in the Catholic faith.  After marrying the late Stanley Courtney, she converted over to the Baptist faith.

The late Stanley and Gloria lived in Long Island, New York for 32 years.  They relocated to Waxhaw, North Carolina in 2004 where they both resided ever since.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband: Stanley Courtney, parents: Ernest Harris, Sr and Melvina (Charles) Davis, her brother Ernest Harris, Jr., brother-in-laws: Marcellus Courtney, William (Marvin) Courtney, and Bobby Howell.

Gloria is survived by her loving children, James Watts (Yvonne) of Hauppauge, New York, LaVerne (Joseph) Keitt of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Clarita (Aukbher) Samalya of Virginia Beach, Virginia, from her previous marriage, she also has had a special relationship with her first son-in-law, Harold Moorer, Grovetown, Georgia, Arnold Courtney of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Yvette Courtney of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Crystal Wallace of Atlanta, Georgia, Troy Courtney of Brooklyn, New York, and Tina Courtney of Brooklyn, New York, Sister-in-laws, June Howell of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Regina(Gregory) Patterson of Sickleville, New Jersey, Marilyn Courtney of Far Rockaway, New York,  her Best friend, Jean Fothergill, Monroe, NC: a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
