Grant S. Fulton, Sr.

April 16, 1960 — August 31, 2024

Grant Steven Fulton, Sr., aged 64, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on April 16, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, Grant spent his formative years in Dayton before moving to Charlotte in 1988, where he resided for the rest of his life.

Grant is survived by his ex-wife, Teresa Fulton; his daughter, Deanna Cureton, son-in-law Donald Cureton, and granddaughter Dea Cureton; his eldest son, Grant Fulton Jr.; and his youngest son, Robert Fulton. He is also survived by his brothers, John Fulton Jr. (Stephanie) and Michael Fulton Sr., as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Grant was preceded in death by his father, John Fulton Sr.; his mother, Rachel Fulton; and his sister, Joanne Fulton. He also leaves behind a devoted cousin, Cordellus Keith of Dayton, Ohio, and lifelong friends Vincent "Jay" James, Albert "Mitch" McCombs, and Lee "Tony" Darden.

Grant was a proud and loving father and grandfather who cherished moments with his family, especially attending his granddaughter’s softball and basketball games.

He attended Nettie Lee Roth High School in Dayton, class of 78, where he excelled as a hometown hero in sports, as a standout quarterback, basketball player, and state champion in track and field. Following high school, Grant attended The Ohio State University, remaining a lifelong and dedicated Buckeye fan.

Grant was a skilled carpenter and a jack-of-all-trades, known for his craftsmanship and hard work. He was employed at Imagine Co. in Charlotte, NC, for the last 11 years, where he made many dear friends. Outside of work, he was an avid sports fan who loved football, basketball, and track and field. He was also a fisherman and earned the title of “Grill Master” among friends and family, who will forever remember his legendary cookouts.

Those who knew Grant will remember his big smile, straightforward demeanor, and his unique ability to live life on his own terms. He was a charismatic, reflective, and stubborn man who didn’t mince words but always spoke from the heart. He had a way of impacting everyone he met with his genuine nature and zest for life. His presence was felt deeply by his loved ones, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at noon, September 7, at Alexander Funeral Home in Charlotte, North Carolina. Following the service, internment will take place at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, located at 7632 Hood Rd, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Grant spent his last years on a fervent path to redemption, embracing the words from William Ernest Henley in his poem Invictus: "It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." He found peace in his faith, as echoed in Ephesians 1:7: "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace."

Grant Steven Fulton, Sr. lived a full life filled with love, laughter, and a deep connection to those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but his spirit and memories will forever remain in our hearts.
