Hazel Swain

Ms. Hazel K. Swain entered into this world on September 23, 1946 and departed this life into Eternal Rest early morning on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 after an extended illness.

She was the eldest of three daughters born to Mabel W, Kearns and the late Luther A. Kearns in Charlotte, North Carolina.

She was formally educated in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Schools and was a graduate of West Charlotte High School, Class of 1964.  She was an avid supporter and attendee of the West Charlotte High School National Alumni Association Class Reunions always representing her graduating class.

Hazel worked for and retired from Mecklenburg County Alcohol and Beverage Control Board, where she started as a clerk and was later promoted to Manager. She worked at stores located on Beatties Ford Road, Graham Street, and Little Rock Road.

Hazel loved to cook for her family, friends, and co-workers.  She especially loved cooking out for holidays and birthday gatherings during the summer.  She enjoyed traveling on Carnival Cruise Lines with friends.  Overall, she found pleasure entertaining all at her home.

Left to cherish loving memories are her two children, Christopher “Chris” Swain and Elder Deborah “Deb” Swain-Moore of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Christopher Griggs, Mercedes Logan, Isis Carroll, Christian Rudisell, and Jonia Green; six great-grandchildren, Amir Carroll, Ilaieh “Lae” Greene, Nathaniel Massard, Amari Phillips, Recco Moore, and Ebony Logan; mother, Mabel W. Kearns; two sisters, Ethel Kearns and Betty Kearns; two aunts, Sarah Sanders and Willie Mae Darby; one uncle, Johnny L. Jackson (Mirian); a special friend, Doreen Dollison, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
