Obituary
Mrs. Helen Huey Lee, older daughter of the late Eddie Leandrew and Pearlie Mae McDonald Huey, was born on December 8, 1950, in Lancaster, South Carolina. She departed this life on Friday, May 14, 2021, in her home, in her bed, with her family at her bedside. Helen was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister, Pearline Davis, and great-niece, Kaliyah Davis.
Helen became a faithful member of Mowing Glade A.M.E. Zion Church at a very early age. She was a goodly and godly woman of The Lord and a loyal member of the A.M.E. Zion Church throughout her life! She attended J.H. Gunn and Independence High Schools, graduating from Independence in 1969. She furthered her education by attending Central Piedmont Community College majoring in Criminal Law. Helen was a devoted employee of United Supply Corporation from which she retired in 2017.
Helen married the Reverend Thomas D. Lee in 1973. They became the proud parents of twins, daughter, Carmen, and son, Marius! She was affectionately known as “Miss Helen” by her husband and co-workers, “Momma” by her children, “Auntie” by her niece, Krystal, Sister Lee, and Mrs. Lee by Church members. Helen served Zion Methodism with her husband in the following capacities: Usher; Deaconess; Choir Member; Guest Speaker; Prayer Partner; and Life Matron of the Woman’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She served with her husband as First Lady of the following A.M.E. Zion Churches: Elm Street (Charlotte, N.C.); Reeves Temple (Davidson, N.C.); Watkins Chapel (Mooresville, N.C.); Southern City Tabernacle (East Spencer, N.C.); and White Rock (Granite Quarry, N.C.). Helen loved counseling young people. Her hobbies included gardening, listening to Gospel music, SHOPPING, and ELEGANTLY DRESSING! Helen was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend!
Helen leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Reverend Thomas D. Lee; daughter, Carmen; son, Marius (Dove); granddaughter, Giana; niece, Krystal Doggett (Curtis); great-niece, Kaliyah Doggett; sister-in-law, Martha Lee; aunts, Annie Ruth Austin (Charlie); Mary Hancock; Naomi Pettiway; uncle, Henry Fletcher; relatives, goddaughters, and special friends too numerous to mention!
