Mr. Henry Lionel Barber
Mr. Henry Lionel Barber, aged 78, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 25, 2026, at Atrium Health Main Hospital. Henry was born on July 19, 1947, in Newton, NC, to the late Elizabeth Wright and James E. Barber. He later relocated to Charlotte, where he attended Mecklenburg schools and met his future wife, Diane Barber.
Throughout his life, Henry worked diligently in various roles. He was employed at Thrasher at Denton Furniture, where he made deliveries for many years. He also worked with other businesses, including Cleaning Services of Charlotte, and served as a delivery driver for Southern Contractor, transporting heavy equipment throughout the city. Due to illness, Henry eventually retired, dedicating his newfound time to his beloved family.
Personal Passions and Dedication
Henry was known for his strong passion for news and current events. He actively sought out information, always keeping up with the latest headlines and striving to understand the issues of the day. A devoted sports fan, Henry especially cherished following the Carolina Panthers, his favorite football team. His dedication and support for his relatives were unwavering, always prioritizing their well-being with affectionate care and love. Deeply committed to his family's welfare, Henry's love for his family was evident. He will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten.
Family and Loved Ones
Henry is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Wright; his father, James Barber; three brothers, Owen Anderson, David James, and Sammy Dunn; and one sister, Ada Massey. He is survived by his wife, Diane Barber; his son, Derrick L. Barber; his daughter, Shakitia Shawntel Jordan; one sister, Roberta Massey; two nieces, Margaret E. Scott and Julia D. James; and Ronald Davis, whom Henry considered his brother. Henry was cherished by many other friends and family members.
