Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8 On July 13th, 2022, God sent an angel for his loving Christian Servant, Mrs. Ida Bouler Reid. Mrs. Ida Bouler Reid, age 78, was born November 22, 1943 in York County, South Carolina. Ida graduated from York Road High School, in the Magnificent Class of 1962, where she was a majorette. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Johnson C. Smith University in 1966. While at JCSU, Ida was elected and served as Miss JCSU 1965-1966. When she discovered that her son was on the Autism Spectrum,she earned a Master of Arts degree in Special Education from North Carolina Central University.. She did further study at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas. Ida began her professional career in Gaffney,South Carolina with the Cherokee County School System as a High School English teacher. She continued to provide the same degree of excellence in other school systems throughout the country,namely in Raleigh,Memphis, Houston ,and Charlotte over a period of 35 years. At an early age, she attended Pineville A.M.E. Zion Church in Rock Hill, S.C. After her marriage to Samuel Reid, Sr. in 1967, they later relocated to Raleigh in 1969 and lived there until 1980. The family joined Davie Presbyterian Church where she became an active member, serving as Deacon and member of Presbyterian Women. In 1980, her family moved to Memphis, there the family joined Mississippi Blvd Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was active with Presbyterian Women. In 1983, she relocated with her family to Houston, Texas, where the family joined Pine Crest Presbyterian church which was across the street from Phyllis Wheatley High School in what the locals called “Fifth Ward” Texas which had been represented by Congresswoman, Barbara Jordan. There she was an active member of Presbyterian women. In July of 1991 the family moved home to Charlotte and joined Memorial Presbyterian Church. At Memorial, Ida looked forward to teaching the pre-school class in Vacation Bible School each June. She served as a Deacon and was active with Presbyterian Women. Ida was initiated at Johnson C. Smith University into Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc. in the Spring of 1964. She was a Life member who was active for more than 50 years which made her a Golden Soror of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ida was a charter member of the Omicron Tau Omega Chapter in Spring, Texas where she served as Basileus. Prior to becoming a General Member,Ida was a member of Lambda Upsilon Omega Chapter,Concord,NC. Ida was also a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the Links, Inc., where she served as Chaplain, and Treasurer. Ida loved babies, her family, immediate and extended, Ida loves people... She loved to dance. She loved all the family dogs,including Muffin and Muffin II the Lhasa Apsos, Rex and Little Jack the Chows ,inherited from her Uncle Jack,and Raulo, Lab-Shepherd rescued from Hurricane Katrina. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Maggie Bouler and Major Bouler; and a brother, Edward Bouler. Left to cherish fond memories are: her husband, Samuel H Reid, Sr, her daughter, Audra Kaye Reid, her son, Samuel H. Reid, Jr; two sisters Sallie Bouler Johnson (John) and Gloria Jean Potts; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
