Imogene “Jean” Harper Jordan (“Mama Jean” to so many) was born to the late Luther B. Harper and Eula Mae in Elberton, GA on June 27, 1941. She departed this earthly life on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Novant Presbyterian-Main Hospital. Imogene was educated in the Mecklenburg County School system. She was a graduate of York Road High School, Class of 1960. Soon after graduation, she met and married her military husband, Willie Lee Jordan. They were married for over 60 years. While Willie traveled and served his country in the United States Army, Jean stayed behind in Charlotte raising their 3 children which included working several jobs within the Charlotte community. Her last employment was at Service Distribution Company on West Trade Street where she retired several years ago as one of their top managers. Imogene loved to bowl and traveled many places across the United States to compete in tournaments and leagues with several dear friends. She was also a “card” shark, especially in Bid Whist, Spades and Gin Rummy! You wouldn’t want to bet against her, LOL! She also loved attending concerts that ranged from Gospel to the Blues! Imogene accepted our Lord Jesus Christ at an early age where she attended several churches to include Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, however, her last membership was with Middle Street AME Zion Church where her dad and stepmother were lifelong members as well. Imogene absolutely LOVED her entire family dearly… just like her dad! She never wanted to miss any major family events, she would even travel for hours to participate and just to show her face until her health started to fail. Being the only child and the oldest granddaughter in the Bradford Family, she grew up with lots of cousins where many of them looked up to her. They were always so close and there for each other. Prior to Imogene’s departure, she was preceded in death by father, Luther Bell Harper, her mother Eula Mae (Bradford) Hutchinson, stepfather, Henry Hutchinson and stepmother, Edna Grier Harper and several dedicated friends, too many to name. Left to cherish Imogene’s memories are her husband, Sgt. Major Willie Lee Jordan (retired); two sons: Alphonso Jordan (Regina) and Antonio P. Jordan, both of Charlotte, NC; one daughter: Pamela D. Jordan also of Charlotte, five grandchildren: Alphonso D. Jordan (Sophia) of Atlanta, GA, Brandon L. Jordan, Daniel M. Jordan, Luther A. Jordan and one granddaughter, Destiny D. Jordan all of Charlotte, NC, three great grandchildren: Aurianna Jordan of El Paso, TX, Ah’niyah Jordan of Charlotte, NC, and Nina Jordan of Atlanta, GA; one special aunt, Betty Murray of Charlotte, NC; six sisters-in-law: Joanne Jones (Vernon), Bobbie Thomas, Helen McJunkins, Jackie Nyemb (Louis) all of Charlotte, NC; Betty Little of Greensboro, NC and Alice Steele (Herman), Pembroke Township, IL, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, Godchildren, other relatives and many “special” friends.
