Jack C. Gordon was born to the late Nathaniel Gordon and Elly Mae Campus on May 3, 1947. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, December 8, 2020, at UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nettie Gordon, who raised him, and by his brother, Harry Gordon. He was born in New York, but moved to North Carolina at an early age. While selling life insurance he met the love of his life and they married in November of 1969. After supervising at Rodeway Trucking Co. for many years, he opened the first black-owned record store, Shazada Records and Tapes, in the early '80s, along with three more locations. In his later years, he opened Gordon Heating and AC, which the family will continue on in his name. Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Mildred Gordon; three daughters, Beverly Lowery (James), Shazada Ray (Larry), and Colby Gordon; one son, Ahmar Gordon; one brother, Husam-Iddin Mateen; and one sister, Patricia King. He also leaves five grandchildren: Brianna and Brian Lowery, and Egypt, London, and Asia Ray; and three great-grandchildren: Truth, Ivy, and Story Lowery; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
