Mr. James Edward Aiken, Sr. was born on November 30, 1932 to Glenn Aiken and Vertie Mae Rankin in Mount Holly, NC. He passed away on July 13, 2021 at Novant Presbyterian in Charlotte, NC with his family by his side.
James worked as a machinist with the Continental Can in New Jersey for over 25 years; then he moved back to North Carolina and worked at Baldor until his retirement.
He attended Mount Sinai Baptist Church for over 15 years, where he served on the Usher Board.
James had a passion for sports. He loved playing golf and was really good at it. James would share golf pointers with others interested in the game.
Known for his sharp stylish dressing and love for styling his hats, James always looked well-presented and well put together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James, Jr., his stepdaughter, Phyllis Robinson and siblings, Howard Rankin, Mildred (Betty) Bryant, and Kenneth Rankin.
James is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Roberta Robinson Aiken; his daughter, Gail Gibbs (Robert) of Newton, NC; his son, Brian Aiken of Cherryville, NC; his stepchildren, Gwen Clifton (William), Kenneth Robinson (Jewell), Jennifer McNair, Tenny Robinson (Veronica), Sharon Robinson Fripp (Shelton), all of Charlotte, NC, Tamie McKenzie (Robert) of Dothan, AL; and his siblings, Bermon Rankin (Ruth), David Rankin (Terry), Terry Rankin (Margaret), Calvin Rankin, Hazeline Morrison, Doris Reid (Henderson), and Naomi Nichols (Robert, Jr.), all of Charlotte, NC.
