James Bullock

January 11, 1949 — May 18, 2024

Mr. James Edmond Bullock (Jim) of Charlotte, NC transitioned peacefully at his home on May 18, 2024. He was born January 11, 1949 in Elizabeth City, NC and was the oldest child of the late Ruffin Bullock and the late Minnie Griffin Bullock. He was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Kimberly Rogers and Bernard Bullock.

He attended public school in Rocky Mount, NC and served in the U. S. Peace Corps. for a short time before joining the United States Army May 5, 1967.

He worked as a Survey Technician for the D.C. Government, and in Harris County Department of Engineering in Houston, Texas before relocating to Charlotte, NC.

James was very talented and loved life. He was an avid reader and could discuss most common topics as well as in-depth topics. In his adolescent years he would often get caught in school reading comic books while the teacher taught. What amazed the teacher was that he was still able to answer any question he was asked about the lesson being taught. According to his beloved cousin Roger Dickens, “Jim was the smartest guy he knew.”

He also enjoyed reading his Bible, playing cards, playing the harmonica, buying and exchanging guns as well as going to the range for a past-time, playing dominoes and chess. He taught many family members and friends how to play chess. Some got it, some didn’t.

Those left to cherish memories of his life are his siblings: Ronald Keith Rogers (Dorothy) of Jacksonville, Fl.; sisters: Carrie B. Arrington of McLeansville, NC, Alice Gaines-Overton (Larry) of Washington, DC, Susan Zanet (Matteo) of Albrightsville, PA, Clora A. Williams and Katherine Bullock of Southfield, Mi.; a special friend, Sherry Ashford of Charlotte, NC, and  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

In the 75 years that James lived, he was many things to many people. He was a son, a loving brother, a caring uncle, a fun-loving cousin, and a great friend to others. He had a heart of gold and was always looking out for others.
