~ The Obituary ~
“…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)
M r. James A. Dennis, went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2021. He was born in Rowland, North Carolina on February 7, 1941, to the union of Matthew and Gennie Dennis.
Mr. Dennis attended school in Rowland, North Carolina. He later relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina where he made his home in the Cherry Community for more than 60 years. He accepted the Lord at a young age, and later became a member of Myers Tabernacle AME Zion Church where he served on the Usher Board and Men’s Choir.
Mr. Dennis was employed with Al Brown and later James Stinson Service Station for over 30 years. He believed in providing good customer service, and made a lifelong friend when a little boy, named Louis, pulled up to the Providence Road station on his Big Wheel Trike and asked Mr. Dennis to please put some air in his tires. Even after retirement, James could be found working on one automobile after another in his role as the neighborhood mechanic. He was a lover of Ford automobiles, especially his prized possessions: his 1969 white Ford Torino Cobra and 1989 blue and white Ford Mustang Convertible. He also loved shooting pool, playing spades and pitching horseshoes, and after winning or losing, would always say “Who da best? ... You know I’m da best!” He was a staunch Dallas Cowboys’ fan, but would also root for the Carolina Panthers, of course only when they weren’t playing the Cowboys. He was proud to have achieved the prestigious rank of a 33 rd Degree Mason. Most of all, James, also affectionately known as “Bud” and “Dennis,” loved his family and friends.
Mr. Dennis was predeceased by his father and mother, Matthew and Gennie Dennis; son, Jermaine “Man” Dennis; and siblings: William “W. C.” Wagner, Mary “Catherine” Lockhart, Betty Woodard, William Dennis, James T. Dennis, Bud Roberts, Ranson “R. D.” Dennis, and Gennie Veave Covington.
Mr. Dennis leaves to mourn the departure and cherish the memories of his life: his wife of 53 years, Doris G. Dennis; three sons, James “Boot” Dennis (Laura “Peaches” Fulwiley), Jeffrey Wright (June), and Desmond Keith Wright (Joyce), all of Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Charisse Wright of Charlotte, NC; five sisters, Sarah D. Sanders of Charlotte, NC; Katie Davis and Dorothy Jeffries (Jeff), all of Hope Mills, NC; Jenny Bell Roberts of Augusta, GA; and Ruth Brooks of Concord, NC; two brothers, James T.
