James Perry Grier was born on July 11, 1958, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Samuel N. Grier, Sr., and Annie Lee Smith Grier. He completed his education at Myers Park High School, Charlotte, NC. The Lord called him home on January 17, 2021. Perry’s many employment adventures advanced him to the life of early retirement, for which now he has truly retired and entered an eternal vacation with many other loved ones that have preceded him in death. He shared a special bond with his Mother, “what a sweet-sweet reunion.” He attended Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church. He demonstrated his love for the Lord through his countless conversations on the word of God. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Perry” or “Hank.” He approached life with a positive and no worry attitude. He loved his family and friends. Many family members and friends counted on Perry to help in many special ways. Perry demonstrated the “Gift for Gab” in his many encounters with family, friends, and strangers. He was known for the many conversations and opinions on any given subject as a highlight of that encounter. Let’s not forget his playful spirit. Also known as a social butterfly, candid joking nature, shared wisdom, and warm spirit in his unique way with all that he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed by not only his family but all that came to know him. Perry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Samuel N. Grier, Jr., and Michael Grier, Sr.; sister-in-law Fran Grier; and nephew, Marcus Young. On January 17, 2021, Perry celebrated his homegoing to a peaceful eternal rest. He leaves us with God’s promise of “The Resurrection and the Life Everlasting.” He is survived by sister, Yolanda G. Young (Johnnie, Jr.); sister-in-law, Dorinda Grier; nephews, Xavier Grier (Nerman), Randy Grier, Michael Grier, Jr. (Tuwand); and nieces, Michelle McCullough (Christopher, I), Vonyeda Campbell (Jonas); great nieces, Bella Grier, MaKayla Grier, and McKenzie Grier; great nephews, Christopher McCullough, II, Devin McCullough, Zaveon Grier, and Brandon Barringer, all of Charlotte.
