James Mitchell Lockhart - September 30, 1944 - April 3, 2024
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of James Mitchell Lockhart on April 3, 2024, at the age of 79. James was the youngest child born to the late Albert Lockhart and Sylvia Lockhart in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A lifelong Charlotte resident, James attended local schools and graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1962, where he was a member of the football team and earned the nickname "Moose." He continued his football career and academic pursuits at Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC, graduating in 1966.
After college, James embarked on a successful career in the moving industry, eventually establishing his own transportation company, James M. Lockhart Trucking, which he managed for 30 years.
A devout Christian, James grew up attending Middle Street AME Zion Church and later became an active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where he participated in Sunday school and served on the security team.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Sylvia Lockhart, his brother Albert Lockhart Jr., and his sisters Drucilla Pratt and Barbara Jo Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Conne Lockhart; his children, Tracy McCain (Dave) of Philadelphia, PA, Brittonya Lockhart-Sparks (Joe) of Powell, TN, David Singletery (Donna) of Charlotte, NC and Alden Lockhart (Burdette) of Lancaster, SC; his sister, Alberta Hall of Charlotte, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
