Tribute to Jennifer

Ms. Jennifer Bowens Holmes was affectionately known as “Jennie” by her mother. She was born on October 18, 1972 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was summoned to her heavenly home on August 29, 2021. Her loving parents James Lewis Holmes, Sr. and JoAnn Bowens Holmes celebrated her life as the youngest child with her big brother James Lewis Holmes, Jr. (Sheree).

As a young child she attended Myers Park Traditional Elementary School, Hawthorn Middle School and graduated from Myers Park High. After completing high school, she attended A&T University in Greensboro, NC.

Jennifer’s love for photography led her to the Art Institute of Philadelphia where she majored in Photography. She enjoyed much success with her photography skills as she worked with the National Football League in NJ.

Upon returning home to NC she accepted a position with NASCAR, Inc. where she was awarded an Emmy for her outstanding work.

Jennifer made her home in Salisbury, NC where she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church. She experienced much joy in serving as the Chairperson for the church “Home Coming” Celebration. Her greatest joy was in serving with the children as a nursery worker.

Among her many talents were cooking and home decorating. She loved to travel and her mother was always the front rider, Jennifer did all the driving. They enjoyed “mini trips” throughout NC. They loved shopping, eating at swanky restaurants and staying in fancy hotels. Jennifer would use her “tech savvy” skills to get the best discounts. She held the title of events planner for her family.

Jennifer and her father had a very special relationship. They shared a unique love for sports. They would spend hours watching football, basketball and sometimes baseball.

However, her big brother was her guardian angel. Even when Jennifer did not know it, he was watching out for her… always keeping her safe from any harm or danger.

Most assuredly, Jennifer will be missed for her infectious smile and her abiding love for her heavenly Father. Throughout her health challenges she continued to bask in the sunshine of God’s Grace and Mercy.

She leaves to mourn: her mother, father and her brother. Among her many blessings are her dedicated friends Veronica Hayes, Nikki Stewart, Michelle Ross, Patricia Cowan, Julie Wimmer and Timothy and Vonnia Morgan.

She will be remembered by her aunts, Beverly Bowens and Frances Lane, a special niece Tiairra Holmes, cousin Sharma Young (Danny) and a host of relatives and friends.
