Life Reflections Honoring Jerry Louis Anthony
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jerry Louis Anthony, on January 11, 2025, at the age of 68. Jerry departed this life surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, service and unwavering commitment to his community. Born on August 21,1956, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Herbert and Sarah Lillie Anthony. Jerry was a graduate of the Myers Park High School, class of 1974. At an early age Jerry, along with his family joined the St. Paul Baptist Church. In his later years, he joined the United House of Prayer for All People where his profound faith led him to serve his community in various capacities including trustee, treasurer, deacon, security, and cadet. He was a member of the Mason Masonic Lodge Zechariah Alexander, Sr. #833.
From his late teens, Jerry was drawn to a career in funeral service, recognizing it as a vital and meaningful profession. He began his esteemed career at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. in the 1970’s. Jerry furthered his education at Central Piedmont Community College, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Fayetteville Technical Community College. He worked at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. as the Assistant Vice-President of Operations until his passing.
Jerry’s professional journey also saw him embracing roles at Piedmont Airlines/American Airlines (from which he retired as a manager), as well as serving as a magistrate, prison guard and volunteer firefighter. Member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Branch NAACP and worked on various committees and the security team (Locally, Regionally and National).
Jerry's best-known attributes are his debonair swag, infectious laughter, generosity and unwavering reliability. As a provider, family organizer and confidant, he touched the lives of many, leaving a permanent mark on all who knew him. Jerry’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will forever be remembered and cherished.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 38 years, Lillie Inez Jean Anthony; his children, Dwayne Carter, Marcus (Priscilla) Jenkins, Anthony (Jackie) Jenkins, Frances Hunter, Princeton Anthony, Nikki Anthony, 16 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
He will also be deeply missed by his brothers, Lonzo (Kitty) Anthony and Benjamin Anthony; sisters, Dorthy (Tommy) King, Lula Anthony-Daniels (Woodie), Doreatha Anthony, Evelyn Hyatt, Jackie Anthony, and Tracey (William) Johnson; along with numerous nieces and nephews, Alfred L. Alexander (Helen) and the entire Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. management and staff, and a host of loved ones who held him in high esteem. Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters Donna McGee, Peggy Coffey, Janie Holmes and Sarah Louise Anthony, and brothers, Herbert Anthony and Harry Anthony.
