Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels
are watching over us. Jewel Lee Foxworth peacefully left this earthly realm on January 8,
2024, after battling several health-related issues, at the age of 75.
It would be wrong to say that Jewel lost her battle because she never stopped fighting.
Though her health was failing for years, few knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy
for life and determined spirit kept her pushing through it all. When others may have given
in, she remained strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look
like.
Her laughter was contagious. Her desire to see others accomplish things in life was
unmatched. Her image, facial expressions, and mannerisms, very much reminded family
members of our beloved grandmother, Carrie Bell, affectionately known as ‘Momma’.
She loved New York, especially the little corner of the globe called Peekskill where her life’s
memories were created and lived. She raised 5 kids through some turbulent political and
personal times, but never did they see her quit. Whether it was hosting card games, selling
dinners, visiting family and friends while her kids encouraged her to drive faster on the
highway, by chanting “Get’em Mommy, Get’em”, Jewel was full of life!
She is survived by 2 brothers and 3 sisters, 5 adult children, more than a dozen grandchildren
and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces & nephews.
