Jimmy 'Jimi' Teeter

October 26, 1948 — October 7, 2024

MR. JIMMY EDWARD TEETER “Jimi,” son of the late Ms. Elsie Mae Blackmon and the late Mr. James Edward Gladden, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 26, 1948. He gained his wings on Monday, October 7, 2024, at eight thirty a.m.

Jimmy attended Second Ward High School and graduated as part of the Class of 1967. He was also briefly at Winston-Salem State University before being drafted into the military during the Vietnam War conflict. After completing basic training at Fort Polk in Louisiana, Mr. Teeter served in the Army Infantry for 2 years. He was rewarded the Air Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze Service Stars before his honorable discharge.

Mr. Teeter was a strong man of faith, raised in the church and becoming a deacon in his later years. He took immense pride in growing up in the historic Cherry neighborhood and nurtured friendships made in the community all the way through adulthood. Even after a period living in Atlanta, Jimmy was great about coming home and checking in.

He found stability at Linder Industrial Machinery, stayed through name changes and site changes, and worked his way up from clerk to finally earning the title warehouse manager before retiring. His quick wit and dry sense of humor helped him form close bonds with almost anyone, whether coworker, nurse, or stranger in line.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his sisters Janice L. Teeter-Blanks and Karen Elaine Pratt, and his brother Calvin Gladden. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Marcus Benson, Sharikka Wright (Terence), and Branna Calloway all of Charlotte, NC. One brother James Gladden, Jr of Forestville, Maryland. One sister Lena Walker, also of Charlotte, NC. And a host of nieces, nephews, including a tight bond with Leslie Walker, Jr, also grandchildren, great-grands, close friends and loved ones.
