On Monday, March 1, 2021, Joe W. Johnson was called to eternal rest from his bedside at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. Joe was born on July 3, 1944 in Winston Salem, NC to the parentage of the late Frances Johnson and Alex Scarborough, Sr. He was seventy-six years old. Joe received his elementary and junior high education from the Winston Salem, North Carolina school system, and later completed his studies in Charlotte, North Carolina. He joined St. Paul Baptist Church in 1980, and served as a member of the Deacon Board, the Group #3 Usher Board, and the Hymn Choir. Joe retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system in 2015 after many years of employment, and previously worked in construction. He was married for forty-one years to his wife, Ernestine Black Johnson, and had one stepson (Jerry). Joe had a kind spirit and was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandparent. He could easily adapt to any environment. Everyone he came in contact with was automatically drawn to his personality.
