Joel D Herron

Mrs. Joel D. Herron, of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Thursday, August 08, 2019 at her home. Joel was born in Charleston, SC on September 23, 1940 to the late Mr Henry B. Duncan and the late Antwerp B.Duncan. Joel was an only child. In 1957 she graduated from Burke High School in Charleston, SC then went on to attend Johnson C. SmithUniversity, where she sang and toured with the JCSU Choir and received a bachelor's degree in ElementaryEducation. Some years later, she attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she received amaster's degree in Elementary Education. As an educator she worked at Zeb Vance Elementary School, but spentthe majority of her thirty years at Dilworth Elementary School. In 1992 she retired from Charlotte MecklenburgSchool System. After retirement, she went on to work at the Gethsemane Enrichment Program for an additionalten years. Joel loved Gethsemane AME Zion Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher for over thirty years. Actuallyimplementing a teen class. Also the Director of the forgotten Sunday School plays. She taught Vacation BibleSchool. She worked with the Buds of Promise. She was member of the Women's Home and Overseas MissionarySociety. She was the last member of the Original Senior Choir. She was a dedicated member of the Sanctuary andConcert Choir where she served as the Music Administrator. The secretary of the Diane Bish Organ FundCommittee that raised over $100,000 in six months for The Greater AME Zion Church. Joel loved Gethsemane andshe loved the choir. Singing was one of her passions. Left to cherish her memory is a devoted and loving husband, Joseph D Herron. One son, Daniel Herron (DanDan).Grandchildren. Cousins. And a ton of friends.
